El Carril de Puigcerdà (Sardana llarga for piano) Joaquim Moner i Carbonell
This sardana is very fanciful in the curts section, both for the long pedalization and for the quintets of semiquavers and demisemiquavers, probably looking for the imitation of the movement of the train. The composer, Joaquim Moner y Carbonell, was a medical pioneer who promoted the vaccination of children in Barcelona. He summered in La Cerdanya and had the Villa Sant Antoni de Puigcerdá built in 1898. He was a great philanthropist and a person very involved with culture, besides writing and composing.
Often in these sardanas the writing consists of exchanging the accompaniment for the right hand and the melody for the left hand, and of unisons, as in this sardana.
