¡A Font Romeu! (Sardana for piano) Josep Maria Ventura
Josep Maria Ventura, known as Pep Ventura, was responsible for the modernization and popularization of the cobla. ¡A Font Romeu! is certainly a record of one of the usual visits of the Catalan coblas to Northern Catalonia. It is a simple sardana in F major for piano but follows the usual dance structure that begins with the introduction of the flabiol. Joyful in all its parts, it is also quite conservative in harmony, rhythm and melody. It makes no use of specific pianistic devices and moves in a similar register throughout the work.

[i] In the Catalunya Nord region ménétriers are still called jutglars today.
[ii] “The repeated note in the left hand represents the tamboret played by the same musician playing the flaviol in the cobla” (Fàbregas i Marcet 2002, 42).
