  • Puigcerdà (Sardana)                                           Ramón Serrat

The version that I perform for piano is an arrangement of the sardana Puigcerdà that Ramón Serrat wrote for cobla on February 12, 1923. Musician of an important and varied activity as composer, teacher and founder of important institutions such as the Cobla Selvatana or the Orfeó de Ripoll, and director of the Municipal School of Music of Terrassa. In 1937 he also wrote the Suite Pirenenca according to the text Impressions pirinenques by Agustí Fabra, of which there is also an incomplete piano reduction in his collection at the Library of Catalonia (M-RSer-116 and M-RSer-122).

[i] In the Catalunya Nord region ménétriers are still called jutglars today.

[ii] “The repeated note in the left hand represents the tamboret played by the same musician playing the flaviol in the cobla” (Fàbregas i Marcet 2002, 42).
